Delicious food, delightful atmosphere, and excellent service.  This describes The Headkeeper Tapas Bar located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.  The Headkeeper is a unique find, and serves tapas style food with both outdoor and indoor seating.

Scallops

Tapas Style Food

Tapas style food has found an Americanized flair with seasonal menus at The Headkeeper.  Dishes such as Pan-Roasted Cauliflower, drizzled with truffle oil; Pan Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops, topped with a raspberry gastrique, are presented and delivered to perfection.  While these dishes can be shared, it should be noted that tapas is a Spanish term that roughly translates to “small portion.”  Tapas can be served hot or cold, and the chef does an excellent job on all dishes, from main protein, to side dishes, to dessert.  Desserts are seasonal, examples include vanilla bean crème brulee and a traditional brownie with ice cream, topped with your choice of candy.

Quesadillas

Even though the menu is tapas-style, some dishes are large enough to consist of a dinner-size portion.  The Flank Steak Quesadilla contains marinated steak, avocado, goat and pepper jack cheese, and is accompanied by pico de gallo and sour cream.  This dish, along with the HK Chicken Caesar Dinner Salad and others, provide enough food to enjoy as your main dish.

Food is delivered to the table as it is prepared, so every dish is fresh and hot.  Dishes may arrive at different times, as tapas style provides for delivery immediately upon completion.  This doesn’t upset the dining experience, however, rather, the dining experience is enhanced.  The ability to receive food hot and fresh and not having been warmed under a light far outweighs receipt of food simultaneously.

Beverages

If you are an adult looking for an alcoholic beverage to accompany your meal, there are three bars, two located inside and one outside.  The Headkeeper offers over 600 varieties of beer, bottled and draft.  The choices don’t stop there, with wine, mixed drinks, and other specialized drinks provided.  Many of the beers are in coolers, with patrons able to select their own bottle while the server opens and pours for your consumption.  Other drinks such as gluten-free and hard sparkling water are also available for those looking for alternatives during their evening out.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere and service are two keep components to a positive dining experience.  While The Headkeeper has indoor seating (both lower and upper levels), there is also an outdoor patio that has umbrella seating.  During peak hours, reservations are accepted and encouraged.  To guarantee an outdoor patio seat on nice evenings, calling ahead for reservations is recommended.  The overall atmosphere on the patio is an excellent assortment of music, pleasant outdoor seating, and general enjoyment.  The staff of The Headkeeper prides themselves on delivering your food, drinks, dessert with excellent delivery and kindness.  Food recommendations are common for the staff since the tapas style of dining is unique and different from other restaurants.  The staff is informed with recommending if a dish will be enough for one, should be split, or other items added.  Alcoholic beverage choices are sorted and delivered, and with the large selection of beers available, that is not always an easy task. Servers do their best to assist all patrons quickly and kindly.

While The Headkeeper is designed to be an atmosphere for adults, children can sit on the patio and enjoy the food as well.  There is not a children’s menu and the large selection of beer and other beverages does make this location a great spot for a date night or group night out.  Bachelorette parties have been found on the patio as well as large parties (groups up to 35 can reserve the upstairs area complete with private bar).

Entertainment

The Headkeeper has several events that can typically be found on their Facebook page or by calling ahead.  Local artists play on the patio, beer releases, and other fun experiences can be found on weekends but also throughout the week.  Give away prizes can be found as well as health and fitness classes.  There are truly events and activities for all.

The outdoor patio area is open from mid-March to mid-to-late October, weather permitting.  Late summer and fall are perfect weather conditions to enjoy the outdoor experience, listen to live music, meet with friends, and taste unique dishes.
